Dining, Not Just Eating

My sons were all in grade school when their mother and I divorced.  They stayed with me on the weekends.  Like too many dads, I fell into the trap of going out to eat for all our meals.  It didn’t take long for me to see the problem with this.  I was the weekend dad and we were losing the family feeling.

I wanted us to stay close.  What better way than to make sure we have a family dinner.  Although we might eat out often, at least once a weekend we sat down to a family style meal at home.  I had to be sure my sons would enjoy the meals so I needed to improve my rudimentary cooking skills.

I found my mother’s old cookbook and many of her old recipes.  Some I updated and some remain the same.  I experimented with new foods and figured out a few short cuts.  I made some mistakes but I also learned a few things.

This book is written with the single dad in mind but it applies to anyone new to the kitchen.

It is available now from Amazon.com in both paperback and as a Kindle e-book.

I hope you enjoy it.

Greatest cookbook I have found in years…. By Oma on April 4, 2016

Greatest cookbook I have seen in years…. the advice is practical, down to Earth, and written in a friendly humorous style that connects the author to those he is trying to help….. rather than preaching this author shows those new to cooking what basic equipment to start with and what can be added later as the person cooking begins to experiment after building a good foundation of knowledge…. I bought a copy for each of our sons who cook with the children a few days a week to allow their wives a bit of free time. Trust me the recipes are simple and yummy, you might think your mom or grandmother cooked your dinner…

I really enjoyed the book. The author writes like he’s talking to a friend, and not just giving a recipe list.

  2. Great ideas for the quick cook. Helpful tips and clues to an outstanding meal as apposed to a good one. Easy to follow recipes with a little zing in them.
